Russia-Ukraine standoff: Biden says Russian invasion "remains distinctly possible" | FULL

U.S. President Joe Biden delivered a statement Tuesday on the evolving situation in Ukraine assuring Russia that neither the U.S. nor NATO were directly targeting them. "The Russian defence minister reported today that some military units are leaving their positions near Ukraine. That would be good. But we have not yet verified that," Biden said adding that "our military analysts indicate that they remain very much in a threatening position." Biden said that Russia has more than a 150,000 troops encircling Ukraine and Belarus and that an "invasion remains distinctly possible." The U.S. president stated that "the United States and NATO are not a threat to Russia. Ukraine is not threatening Russia. Neither the U.S. nor NATO have missiles in Ukraine. We do not have plans to put them there as well. We're not targeting the people of Russia." Russia has always denied they are planning to invade Ukraine, but says it needs the West to take its security worries about NATO seriously. “We will not invade Ukraine unless we are provoked to do that,” RIA news agency cited Russia’s envoy to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, as saying.
