Original channel @EyeOnMargate Original video • PARKING WHILE BLACK - DETAINED at City Park Margate Police FB link / margateflpolice Margate City Hall 5790 Margate Boulevard Margate, FL 33063 City business hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday City Hall Main Telephone: 954-972-6454 Police NON-EMERGENCY: 954-764-4357 On February 27th, 2025 Officer Sohn, along with officers Escobar, Alzar, and Sergeant Sawyer of the Margate Police Department in Florida, detain and handcuff a man who was just sitting in his car. The car was stationary, parked on the side of the road by a park. Nothing unusual. No expired tags, nor was there a call made to the department about a suspicious vehicle. Officer Sohn, without anything else to do, decided to run the plates and have a consensual conversation with the man sitting in the drivers seat. Because the man chose to invoke his 4th Amendment right to not identify, Officer Sohn decided to investigate further. He comes back and believes the gentleman has a warrant. He isn’t 100% sure, but still decides to proceed in forcing the man to identify. This is where things take a bad turn. He is handcuffed for approximately 10 minutes, and detained for about 17 minutes until the supervisor on scene orders officer Sohn to release him. Complaints have been filed and a lawsuit is underway. This video comes from Eye on Margate channel. This is the kind of video that makes you angry but is also quite satisfying. Police officers often times get it wrong and create lawsuits that the taxpayers have to pay out. And that isn’t something we should overlook and ignore. But the way this man speaks to these officers is proper, considering the circumstances. From beginning to end, this man doesn’t let off. He absolutely eviscerates these officers actions and leaves them with nothing left to argue at the end.
