A discussion with Linda Shockley, President, Lawnside Historical Society. Ms. Shockley talks about growing up in Lawnside, where black folks came to live in the area and grew it to be a thriving community, the history of the area in relation to Underground Railroad, how her father built a house that still stands today, what racial tensions were felt by its residents, what abolitionist William Still did to chronicle the names and family ties of runaway slaves who came through the area, what Peter Mott did to hide runaway slaves in his home and how the historical society works to keep this history alive. This is a most interesting interview.
