Our journey of healing and cultural resurgence is stronger than ever. The September 30, 2024, "We Are Still Here" event was a powerful celebration of resilience, unity, and cultural pride. Through the renewal of traditions, the reclaiming of sacred songs, and the strength of our community, we are honoring our past while building a bright future. This event also marked the official launch of our "Say Their Name" campaign—a vital initiative to honor and remember those who never made it home. As a leading community in truth and reconciliation, we are committed to uncovering the histories of Miller Bay Indian Hospital and the Crosby Boys’ and Girls’ Schools. Through dedicated research and community-driven efforts, we aim to ensure that every child is acknowledged, their stories are told, and their spirits are never forgotten. This is just the beginning. With each step, we continue to heal, grow, and reconnect with who we are. Our stories, songs, and traditions live on—stronger than ever. Together, we rise. #WeAreStillHere #SayTheirName #TruthAndReconciliation #LaxKwAlaams #HealingAndHope This event was in partnership with a wide range of organizations and departments, including: Lax Kw'alaams Health Department Lax Kw'alaams Brighter Futures Lax Kw'alaams Head Start Lax Kw'alaams Wap Suwilaawksa Lax Kw'alaams Public Works Lax Kw'alaams Education Department Lax Kw'alaams Pool Staff Lax Kw'alaams Tribal Dancers Amago'ot Gyetm Maaxii Dance Group Honored Masset Guests Entertainment by: Salt Water Hank Elvis and Rod Stewart Impersonator: Ronnie Scott - Iconic Tributes And countless donations, volunteers, modes of transportation, and behind-the-scenes supporters.
