Beirut explosion: France's Macron warns Lebanese leaders to reform swiftly or face consequences

French President Emmanuel Macron visited the site of the Beirut port explosion on Tuesday, almost a month after the blast killed more than 190 people and injured approximately 6,000 on Aug. 4. It was Macron's second visit to the country in less than a month and saw him stepping up pressure for reforms in a country that is facing unrest due to an economic crisis and made worse by the port explosion. The French president warned Lebanon's leaders on Tuesday that he was seeking "credible commitments" by the end of October, and if leaders have not met those commitments, there would be consequences. He said leaders had agreed to form a government of experts in the next two weeks to help chart a new course for the nation, but said there would be "no blank cheque."
