The Department of Medicine at IU School of Medicine is home to a robust infectious diseases division which focuses on improving the health of local and global communities by preventing and treating a variety of illnesses. As an ever-changing field of medicine, the specialty of infectious diseases needs top academic minds and innovators to ensure worldwide health and safety. Our division’s research portfolio supports investigations in HIV, malaria, sexually transmitted infections (including HPV, Hemophilus ducreyi, Neisseria gonorrhea, and Chlamydia trachomatis), group B streptococus, and Clostridium difficile. Its faculty are renowned for their innovation, from development of the Gardasil HPV vaccine to the invention of the Histoplasma and Legionella antigen rapid diagnostic tests.
