The “Pool of Siloam” is a rock-cut pool located at the southern end of the City of David (Biblical Jerusalem). The water in the pool comes from the Gihon Spring via a 533 meter-long tunnel, known also at Hezekiah's Tunnel. The Pool of Siloam was built in the First Temple period around 2,700 years ago, during the reign of King Hezekiah, as a major part of the water system for the ancient city of Jerusalem. In the 5th century, a pool was constructed at the end of the Siloam Tunnel, at the behest of the Empress of the Byzantine Empire, Aelia Eudocia.
