About a month ago I bought this Mongoose Dolomite for a whopping $279 from Walmart.com. I've added a few things to it, including a Shimano Altus 7 speed trigger shifter. I took the bike to the Bond Brook trails in Augusta Maine for a test ride on December 1. The ride went well for the first trail, Double B, but came to an abrupt stop on the second trail, The Works. The chain snapped about halfway through The Works. This was nothing to do woth the bike or its quality. No, this was all on me. When I repalced the stock twist shifter with the trigger shifter, I neglected to check the rear derailleur's barrel adjuster. The setup was optimized for the twister shifter, but was applying too much tension with the trigger shifter. Since Double B was a dowhill trail, there was little shifting. When I started climbing an shifting on The Works, it was more than the chain could take. Of course my spares were at home since I had emptied the trucck to load it with Thanksgiving items. Lessons learned (1) always carry your spares and (2) check eveything when you alter any component on your bike. Costs: Inital purchase: $279.00 USD (Walmart.com) Rockbros pedals: $19.95 USD (Amazon.com) Shimano Rapidfire trigger shifter: $18.00 USD (Amazon.com) Rockbros locking grips: $8.95 USD (Amazon.com) Wake 720mm aluminum handlebar: $22.19 USD (Amazon.com) Wake 45mm aluminum stem: $9.97 USD (Amazon.com)
