It's been a while but the Forest Kings are back! YAY!!! At 0:51 the Forest king seems quite interested in the Potter wasp and I think it tried to nail it but the wasp turned away. And I love the Lewin's Honeyeater trying to eat a wasp before being scared off by a plummeting Forest King – 1:14. Best belly flop! The feather in the birdbath on Day 2 was lost by Junior when he came for a drink. At 5:31 it looks like a FK slams into the birdbath but I think it actually flipped and kicked off it. It looks like excellent coordination to me but I could be wrong. At full speed it really looks like an accident. Three separate days, multiple visits, sometimes two Forest Kings at once. Over 75 minutes of footage for a six minute video – over half of which is slow-motion, so tops 3 minutes of Forest King footage. It can be 10 minutes between dips. It can also be difficult to know when the birds leave so a lot of footage is just of nothing (not counted in the 75 minutes). When these birds are near the birdbath you just have to turn the camera on and let it run. On top of the masses of footage, it has to be checked very carefully. Some birds come for lengthy visits but these guys are so quick to get in and out. I watch each clip through so see if there is any good footage and note the times the birds dive to save time during the editing process. And then the editing itself...so I really, really hope you enjoy this video. Ah – I've done something a little different – slow-motion pulled back a bit and also sometimes that plus a slowed close-up of a bird hitting the water. Sometimes I just did the usual full speed and then a close-up of hitting the water. I could do the close-ups every time if you think it would be better. Even slowed down to ¼ speed they still move pretty fast.
