That's one of the most common questions asked by our patients and I would like to explain the lip reduction surgery so that you get the answer within that explanation. Now lip reduction surgery is done for bulky lips either up uper lip or lower lip and sometimes even both lips . Now we do this surgery under local anesthesia in our outpatient clinic. You don't need admission and you don't need general anesthesia. We first block your nerves which supply the sensation for your lips, the two nerves over here and two nerves in the upper jaw so that the whole of the lip is completely numb. When we are doing the surgery we usually cut the excess lip tissue from inside. Now if I have to show not in the outside red part but the inside red part of your lips. So there are no scars that are left which is visible to the eye and usually the wound heals very well in a matter of 2 weeks time. Now during the lip reduction surgery there might be some bleeding with something called as a bipolar cautery machine and then put some stitches these stitches are usually absorbable stitches so we don't have to cut out those stitches after the surgery. Once the procedure is done we usually ask to maintain the oral hygiene very well we'll give you a mouthwash to keep your mouth very clean. We give you some antibiotics and some painkillers for you for the first 3 to 5 days and we usually call you back after 1 week to see the condition of the wound. You can expect some massive swelling of the lips but that is normal and is to be expected. Your final results will be seen 6 weeks after the procedure.
