The goal was to qualify for the U Visa, a programme designed to help genuine victims of criminal activity who assist law enforcement. Authorities say the suspects planned at least six fake robberies, ensuring the incidents were captured on CCTV to appear real. In several cases, employees allegedly delayed calling the police to help the staged robber escape. Some participants are also believed to have paid money to take part in the scheme.
