LET ME OUT: Witnessing an EDGE Moment in Boyz N the Hood
This is a short one without a lot of context, but a powerful EDGE Moment in Boyz N the Hood. I’ve discovered that values are often in play when we make powerful life choices. In this one, Tre (early Cuba Godding, Jr.) joins Doughboy (Ice Cube) and his crew to go seek revenge for the murder of Doughboy’s brother. Tre sneaks out of the house where his father (Laurence Fishburne) is waiting. This is a star-studded cast. In this moment, Tre is faced with a decision that could alter his life (think Mr. Destiny stars). And his values are in conflict. He feels a sense of loyalty, justice, and revenge. And yet he also feels his father’s teaching of education, family, and community. I do love that Doughboy lets him out without a word. There’s some sort of respect for Tre and his father there. I feel like there’s gotta be more Ice Cube. And more Cuba. Fishburne already appeared. Have a good one! I wonder how many of the 7K will watch this one…
