This is one of those ways except to "cape a deer". With that said, this is just a basic overview of how to preserve the cape (the deer skin), in order to have your deer mounted with minimal damage to the skin. In this particular video we were saving the cape so that we can trade it to the taxidermist for a free antler mount. The taxidermist can save the cape (assuming it is big enough) for another hunter who may have damaged their cape for what ever reason. The taxidermist might be able to use another cape on their deer so that they can still get their trophy deer mounted. This deer was a cull that we had been looking for and he just barely met the minimum neck size for the taxidermist we use. Size requirements may vary depending on where you hunt. We are in Central Texas and the deer we hunt on low fences are pretty small for the most part. Sorry about the water mark. My normal video camera gave up the ghost and I had to use my still camera. Unfortunately the video format required some file conversions for Windows Movie Maker to use it. Any suggestions on a decently priced HD video camera with a good optical zoom would be great.
