If you're going to post the good, you have to post the bad! -Todays video was a grinder to produce! With the fish still caught up majority in the deeper water, I may have misjudged my target areas a bit with the false fall temps. LESSON LEARNED! But we still managed to have a great time and catch some quality bass! Smallmouth can be tricky to catch, they are very nomadic in comparison to largemouth, and while they will push shallow to feed in that summer-fall transition, its a very short window in which they do so. I think on this trip I focused too much on the tops of flats as if the smallmouth were constantly pushing up there to feed, but with the overcast conditions and cooler weather for the majority of the trip, can you really blame a feller? In hindsight, I should have focused the reefs/high spots more in the morning and evenings, and toward the middle of the day, targeted that 15-25ft range. Be it isolated boulders, rock/sand transitions, what have you. I think that deeper water would have made for a much better outcome on this trip as I now do not think the smallmouth were as consistent in their fall transition as I had initially hoped!
