Download the high quality MP3 for free at http://www.CryonautMusic.com I spent much of my late teens and early 20s listening to progressive rock, and Genesis quickly became a huge influence on my musical tastes (part of my sacred three prog-rock pillars, along with Rush and Yes). Dodo/Lurker, off their 1981 album, ABACAB, is one of my all-time favourite Genesis tracks. It twists and turns, taking the listener on a gritty, bombastic ride, but is at the same time a bit more accessible to the average audience than their longer, more involved pieces like Supper's Ready. This album had great use of Tony Banks' synthesizer as a primary instrument, and helped to cement the synth as my go to music making device. Genesis were also big on using heavy bass synth sounds to lay a foundation for much of their recordings, often holding the root note while doing interesting chord changes on top. Their earlier track, Squonk, is the perfect example. This is one of my favourite songwriting elements, and I owe a lot to Genesis for opening my eyes (ears?) to this technique. With this cover, I tried to pay proper respect to the original while still injecting my own flavours throughout the mix. The result is a bit less "sinister" than the source, and slightly more uplifting, especially in the Lurker second act. This is also my first real stab at singing lead vocals, and overall I think I did okay. Thank goodness for the power of software manipulation. Fun fact: I always though Phil Collins was singing "Darth Vader, agitator". I've now learned that it's "Dog baiter, agitator", which makes even less sense to me... Anyway, hope you like it!
