This Shortleaf Pine that I'm using today is much wetter than most of the dampish sets you'll be using. It's a good example though of what you can expect from the Drying Cycles Technique (See Playlist Below). As I explained a couple of times in this video, drying cycles are a simple method of using friction to dry out the working ends of the the set... the hot end of the spindle and the divot. You simple do the burn in as usual and when you see good smoke, stop drilling and let that smoke, which is really steam escape. Go back and do as many drying cycles as you need until you see the set is making dark dust. You can now cut your notch and proceed on with more drying cycles. Once again, as soon as you see the set start making dark dust, you can then go for the ember. Now, today, this Shortleaf Pine was simply WET, through and through. It required many drying cycles to dry it out and finally get that ember, LOL! from the very last of the bottom of the divot. This demonstration with such wet stock is a true testimony to the effectiveness of the Drying Cycles Technique. Please follow the LINKS below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You!
