ESCRS Video Of The Month, June 2018: Minimally Invasive Micro Sclerostomy
Dr Henny Beckers (The Netherlands) introduces this video from Dr Agarwal (India) This video presents a new minimally-invasive approach for glaucoma surgery. This method uses a surgical tool which is a stainless steel cutting blade with a penetrating tip covered by a conjunctiva protector sleeve. The surgical component is connected to a device that is controlled with a foot-switch to rotate the blades. This blade is inserted through a scleral tunnel into the anterior chamber and after starting rotation, a scleral drainage channel is created to produce a filtering bleb. This new procedure has produced promising preliminary results after 6 months follow-up. However, possible complications must be looked at closely. What do you think of this procedure?
