EATING DISORDERS Eating Disorders — Changing Demographics • Incidence similar in: – Non-Hispanic White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian American people – Previously mischaracterized as occurring in predominantly non-Hispanic White, affluent, adolescent girls • Rates of eating disorders 3–4× higher (or more) in the LGBTQIA+ community • Incidence increasing: – Across all: • Racial and ethnic groups • Socioeconomic classes – In: • Preadolescent children • Males • Individuals perceived as having an average or increased body size • Males are more likely to: – Experience greater weight fluctuations – Have overweight/obesity at onset of eating disorder – Pursue leanness/muscularity over thinness per se – Binge — especially on carbohydrates – Misuse alcohol and illicit drugs – Experience gender dysphoria – Refuse treatment Continue your review: https://medstudy.com/products/pediatr...
