Meet Kiran Bhai Patel, a self-proclaimed "thinker, strategist, analyst, and campaign manager" with a Twitter following of 1,595. Kiran Patel successfully misled the Jammu & Kashmir administration that he was an additional director (strategy and campaigns) in the Prime Minister's Office, making him an important man in the most security-sensitive state of India. He even went as far as dressing up in a Nehru jacket and sunglasses, carrying weapons and being accompanied by a huge police entourage. But in February 2023, Kiran Patel pushed his luck too far, and his con game was exposed. It turned out that he was a conman from Gujarat who had fooled the government apparatus with his fake credentials of a PhD from a college in Virginia and an MBA from IIM Trichy. Kiran Patel's scamming activities have raised serious questions about the credibility of India's security apparatus and the need for stringent background checks.
