Toccata (from the Uzbekistan Suite) by Georgi Mushel performed by Ben Bloor on the 25 stop 1878 Father Willis organ of All Saints' Church, Hastings on Thursday 11th July 2024. Born in Tambov, Russia, Georgi Mushel moved to Uzbekistan during the Second World War and taught at the Tashkent Conservatory. He was a pianist and composer who wrote the first opera based on Uzbek themes, Farkhad i Shirin. In organ-playing circles certainly in the Western world, he is known for a singular piece - the Toccata, from his 'Uzbekistan Suite', a joyful work, constantly driven forward by its relentless rhythm.
