I am completely blown away with this game in comparison to all the older Castlevania games. A lot of people are trying to compare this to the Super NES version and even say it's even inferior, and I think they're crazy. This has to be the best Turbo Graphics CD game ever made. This game truly feels like a younger Symphony of the Night before anything else. I started to play through the Super NES version just to do some comparisons and they feel miles apart. Castlevania: Rondo of Blood - A Bloody Good Time on the TurboGrafx-CD Castlevania: Rondo of Blood made its debut on the TurboGrafx-CD back in 1993, marking the beloved gothic series' first foray into 16-bit territory. This TurboGrafx-CD exclusive took the classic Castlevania action-platforming formula and elevated it to new bloody heights. You take control of vampire hunter Richter Belmont as he battles through 9 stages filled to the brim with classic Castlevania nasties like axe-wielding armor, flying medusa heads, and creepy crawly monsters. Armed with the legendary Vampire Killer whip, you'll need to overcome treacherous traps and challenging bosses to rescue Richter's beloved Annette and a handful of village maidens. Rondo of Blood utilizes the enhanced power of the TurboGrafx-CD to deliver visuals, music and effects that far surpass the NES Castlevania trilogy. The gothic pixel art environments are dripping with atmosphere and the CD audio perfectly sets the monster-slaying mood. Gameplay-wise, this is classic Castlevania through and through. You'll jump, whip and dodge your way through linear stages while slaying baddies and avoiding hazards. There's a satisfying weight to the combat as you crack that whip and collect temporary power-ups like axes, boomerangs, and holy water to vary up your offense. While straightforward, Rondo of Blood excels at providing an excellent challenge. The default difficulty is tough but fair, with checkpoints on each stage. Crank it up to Expert mode and you've got one heck of a platforming test on your hands! With two playable characters, multiple story paths, hidden stages and tons of secrets, Rondo of Blood offers excellent replay value for vampire slayers. This is easily among the best classic-style Castlevania games ever made. From the gothic visuals to the killer CD audio and outstanding challenge, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is a blood-soaked good time on the TurboGrafx-CD. It's an essential pick up for any fan of old-school Castlevania or brutally tough action-platformers. This fang-tastic classic deserves its legendary status. Set in the year 1792, you play as Richter Belmont, a vampire hunter. The dark priest Shaft has kidnapped Annette Renard, Richter's main love interest, and taken her to Castlevania along with a handful of other female victims. Wielding an ancestral whip imbued with holy powers to crush darkness, Richter heads out into the night alone to rescue the victims and deal out some justice, Belmont style.
