We had the privilege of attending a magnificent Rampuri wedding, where every detail—from the elegant decor to the warm hospitality—reflected grandeur. But for us, the true highlight of the evening was the feast. The aroma of slow-cooked gravies, freshly baked bread and sizzling kebabs filled the air, drawing us toward the heart of the celebration—the bustling kitchen. Here, we met the unassuming yet masterful Chef Nasir, the man orchestrating all actions. Under his watchful eye, a medley of Rampuri and Awadhi dishes was being prepared with remarkable skill. The kitchen was divided into separate sections for vegetarian and non-vegetarian preparations. We watched in awe as Chef Nasir and his expert team worked seamlessly. As the feast was laid out, we were first drawn to a dish that had just arrived at the table—chukandar ka halwa. Its deep ruby hue, rich aroma, and glossy sheen made it irresistible. The first spoonful revealed a delicate balance of sweetness and earthiness, a perfect way to begin the indulgence. The non-vegetarian starters set a high standard for the meal ahead. Chapli kebabs, crisp on the outside and tender within, were bursting with flavors of warm spices. The chicken seekh kebabs, generously brushed with ghee, were smoky, succulent, and melt-in-the-mouth. On the other hand the veg Muradabadi moong dal, simple yet hearty, provided a soothing contrast to the robust spices of the kebabs. For the main course, we enjoyed paneer Changezi, korma, lagan ka murgh, dum ka kofta, biryani, and kulchas. Each dish carried the distinct flavors and cooking techniques of the region, prepared with expertise and care. As we observed the making of each dish, we got to learn so many fascinating details from the chef himself. No celebratory meal is complete without dessert, and the shahi gulathi provided the perfect finale. Creamy, luscious, and delicately perfumed with cardamom, it was both indulgent and comforting—a dish that lingered on the palate long after the last spoonful. As we savored the last bites, we couldn’t help but marvel at the craftsmanship that had gone into every dish. Chef Nasir and his team had woven magic into this meal, making it not just a feast but an experience—one that celebrated the rich culinary heritage of Rampur with finesse and passion. With full hearts and satisfied appetites, we extended our warmest wishes to the newlywed couple.
