The House of Representatives has defended the newly signed Electoral Act 2026, describing it as imperfect but constitutionally enacted and reflective of the collective will of the National Assembly. Lawmakers insisted the amendment followed due parliamentary process, including the work of a conference committee established to harmonise differences between House and Senate versions of the bill before transmission to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assent. Despite this defence, the amendment has triggered sharp backlash. The African Democratic Congress accused the President of weakening democratic credibility by signing the revised Act and vowed to mobilise Nigerians to safeguard the integrity of the 2027 general elections. Several civil society organisations echoed similar concerns, warning that unresolved loopholes in the law could undermine transparency and public trust. They criticised what they described as a rushed assent and cautioned that ambiguity around electronic transmission of results could create room for disputes. The Middle Belt Forum also argued that the amendment represents a setback for Nigeria’s electoral progress, claiming it reverses gains made in strengthening digital transparency in previous reforms. Responding to the criticism, House Spokesman Akin Rotimi dismissed claims that public opinion was ignored during deliberations, particularly on electronic transmission of results. He maintained that due legislative process was strictly observed throughout the review of the 2022 Electoral Act. Rotimi further condemned the tear-gassing of protesters at the National Assembly complex, describing the action as regrettable and unconstitutional. At the same time, he urged civil society groups to ensure that peaceful demonstrations are not infiltrated by disruptive elements. With the 2027 elections approaching, the Electoral Act 2026 is already shaping into a defining political battleground — one that will test institutional credibility, public confidence, and the resilience of Nigeria’s democracy. #ElectoralAct2026 #ElectoralActAmendment #HouseOfReps #HouseOfRepresentatives #NationalAssembly #NASS #Tinubu #BolaTinubu #ADC #AfricanDemocraticCongress #MiddleBeltForum #INEC #Election2027 #NigeriaDecides #NigeriaPolitics #NigeriaNews #BreakingNews #Democracy #ElectionReform #ResultTransmission #ElectronicTransmission #ManualCollation #HybridSystem #ElectoralProcess #ElectoralIntegrity #FreeAndFairElections #Governance #PoliticalDebate #NaijaPolitics #Transparency #RuleOfLaw #ElectionLaw #AbujaPolitics #NigeriaUpdate #DemocracyWatch #VoteProtection #ElectoralTransparency #PublicTrust #CivilSociety #OppositionVoices # Legislative Process #ConferenceCommittee #PolicyReform #ElectionTechnology #ResultsPortal #2027GeneralElections #TelecomInfrastructure #DigitalVoting #ElectionMonitoring #PoliticalDevelopment #NigeriaHeadlines #TrendingNow #NewsAlert #PoliticalAnalysis #NationalDebate #CivicEngagement #GovernmentWatch #InstitutionalIntegrity #DemocraticProcess #PoliticalUpdate #GovernanceMatters #LeadershipMatters #PublicPolicy #NationInFocus #ElectionWatch #PoliticalPressure #DemocracyNow #NigeriaCurrentAffairs #AbujaNews #ElectoralCommission #VoteNigeria #PoliticalReform #Accountability #NationalPolitics #PoliticalScene #electiondebate #SecurityAndPolitics #ElectionCoverage #NigeriaReports #DemocraticValues #LeadershipDebate #PublicAffairs #CivicResponsibility #ElectionLawReform #PoliticalHeat #GovernmentAffairs #NigeriaToday #PoliticalInsight #NationalInterest #PolicyDebate #ElectionIntegrityNow #DemocracyInAction #PublicInterest #NigeriaBreaking #PoliticalRoundup #GovernanceUpdate #ElectionDiscussion #VoteCount #DemocraticNation #PoliticalNarrative #ElectionMatters #NigeriaElectionWatch #LeadershipFocus #PoliticalTracker #ElectionSeason #CivicVoices #PoliticalCommentary #NationalAgenda #ElectoralSystem #PoliticalEngagement #NigeriaTrend #PublicAccountability #DemocracyProtection #LeadershipAndPolicy #PoliticalCoverage #NigeriaLeadership #GovernanceWatch #ElectionAlert #PoliticalFocus #DigitalReform #ElectionFramework #NationwideDebate #PoliticalWatch #ElectionImplementation #TransparencyNow #GovernmentLeadership #PoliticalDialogue #NigeriaDemocracy #ElectionSpotlight #LeadershipVision #PublicTrustNigeria #ElectoralDebate #PolicyAndPolitics #NigeriaPublicAffairs #DemocraticStability #ElectionUpdate #PoliticalArena #GovernanceCrisis #NationalConversation #ElectionPlanning #PoliticalIssues #InstitutionalReform #NigeriaInsight #LeadershipAccountability #ElectionProcess #PoliticalFlash #DemocracyMatters #PublicLeadership #ElectionNewsNigeria
