Incredible week backcountry skiing at the Alexandra Cabin in British Columbia, Canada. The Alexandra Cabin is the newest cabin built as part of the Icefall Lodge operation and located deep in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Everything about this trip was incredible. The cabin sleeps 8 guests with a guide, a practicum, and a chef. Everything (except beer) is inclusive of the trip from the helicopters in and out, knowledgeable guiding of the terrain, seven nights stay, and some of the best food I've ever eaten (Thanks Stuart!!!) For this trip, we flew up to Calgary and drove west into the mountains. We had a flex day on either end to mitigate the dangers of weather, road closures, and helicopter delays. After a day riding lifts at Lake Louise, we continued through the Canadian Rockies to Golden, BC for the night. In the morning, we made it to Donald where we signed forms and boarded our helicopter into the wilderness. Day 0 - Arrival The helicopter into Alexandra Cabin. Day 1 - The Bunny Slope The first full day at Alexandra Cabin was a shakedown on "The Bunny Slope". This was a fairly straightforward climb with an introduction to the impressive landscape. The peaks around Alexandra are absolutely stunning. Before we arrived it snowed around 12" but the forecast for the week looked bitterly cold with no chance for new snow. I was somewhat concerned but my fears were unfounded as the week shaped up to be incredible. Day 2 - The Wild West and Rodeo Knob Day 2 we headed up the Wild West, though in reality we were only on the lowest section, AKA "The Mild West". This was really fun skiing through deep rolling dunes and giant snow-covered boulders. After heading back for lunch because of the negative temperatures (F) we took a lap up below Rodeo Knob where I first used the INSTA360 X4 on the backpack mount in order to get some 3rd person perspective footage. Day 3 - The Ridgeline to Moonshot Col This one I'm not sure what it's actually called. We "headed up to Moonshot Col" but that run is actually over the ridge and left around the giant triangular peak near the top. We headed back down through the rolling moonscape and finished back at the Bunny Slope. Day 4 - Up the Alexandra Drainage For the fourth day we headed downstream of the Lyell Creek and up a different valley in the Alexandra Drainage. This section consisted of several somewhat shorter runs but man were they good! Day 5 - The Deep End and Fireball Canyon For the fifth day the entire group headed straight out the cabin and up the opposite slope. Arcing around we made it underneath "The Deep End" but really in the "Shallow End" or just "The Kiddie Pool"... ;) These were some fun lines, but the real majesty was the descent back home through Fireball Canyon, a narrow canyon filled with frozen waterfalls and giant pillows. Day 6 - Return to the Alexandra Drainage. Day 6 we returned to the previous location and skied under incredible sun halos and sundogs. Day 7 - Farewell Powder at the Wild West Final day was a quick hit of powder back on the Mild West before flying out after an incredible week. 00:00 - Alexandra Cabin Introduction 01:02 - Helicopter into the Alexandra Cabin 02:38 - Day 1 - The Bunny Slope 04:46 - Day 2 - The Wild West 06:41 - Rodeo Knob 08:10 - Day 3 - Moonshot Uphill 09:27 - The Ridge to Moonshot Col 13:44 - Night at the Alexandra 14:16 - Day 4 - The Alexandra Drainage 19:58 - Day 5 - The Deep End 23:06 - Don't let the Pine Marten in... 24:54 - Fireball Canyon 30:41 - Day 6 - Return to the Alexandra Drainage 35:59 - Day 7 - Farewell Powder in The Deep End 37:00 - Helicopter Extraction The Alexandra Cabin is part of Icefall Lodge and located in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. The Alexandra Cabin is located in the spectacular Lyell Creek 9km north of Icefall Lodge. In the past, this terrain could only be skied by an extremely strong group in perfect conditions. Alexandra features multiple runs over 2000m of vertical drop, some of the best big alpine ski touring, and great tree skiing right above the cabin for snowy days. There are 8 guest beds on the upper floor, a fully equipped kitchen, large dining table, a comfortable lounging area around the woodstove, and a wood-fired cedar sauna!!! https://www.icefall.ca/accommodation/...
