Fed up by the simplistic and braindead verse that is abandoned in droves on the internet every day, I settled to, paradoxically, counter it with my own little internet poem. I hope it resonates. There will be more. Though instagram poetry / instapoets / tumblr poetry /twitter poetry (think Rupi Kaur) have all in some sense revitalised poetry in the eyes of a new generation, a lot of it sounds intentionally made for people to cringe at. Rindborg Forgive me for how I will twist your tongue But I cannot in good faith inspect The fragments in the web Which litter a sea with their microscopic debris And cover the corals And stifle the life of the colours Of thousands of lifetimes of wit Forgive me for resorting to my enemy’s verse But we live now in a world of fake artistry In which snorkelers pretend to tell you of Great depths in the deep blue sea And tell you without jest Of bad boys And girls with broken hearts Worn out hand-me-downs Without power, push, or authenticity Forgive me for I know not all And no more buts Some are born bards Good enough for you and me So I do not mean to generalise All I wish is for the proficient To be seen in their depth From above the waterline And the spheres And far beyond the moon
