Campanopolis land was purchased in 1976 by self-made millionaire Antonio Campana. Antonio was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer, he survived for 24 years. He worked tirelessly on Campanópolis. The land was expropriated and used as a landfill, after years of legal battle Campana won. When he recovered lands possession it was buried under piles of garbage. Campana also planted more than 100,000 trees and other plants. Open only on Saturdays for just four hours, visits must be reserved and paid for in advance via the official website.
