Setting Up M. Graham Watercolor Palette

First, the tubes of M Graham watercolors were sorted: All yellows, oranges & reds together. Then all greens, blues & Earth pigment tubes together. I organized each color family by value, light to darker, warm to cool hues. If it has yellow, orange or red in the pigment, it is likely to be a warm color. Yes, there are warm & cool greens; greens with yellow & greens with blue in them. All colors look more vibrant (intense) when placed next to semi-neutrals (cool or warm grays.) Next, I put a dot of pigment from each tube, & labeled each pigment dot. I used clean water to dilute & test each pigment. Then, I sought a good order to place them in the full pans in an empty palette case of 24 pans. Then, the pigments were placed into the full pans. Some were used to fill 2 pans, if it is a hue that is used a lot. Finally, I made a color (hue) pigment swatch chart to match the palette. Enjoy!
