Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue

The 75-metre tall Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue stands at 121 metres, if you count the mammoth concrete pedestal on which it rests. It is 65 metres wide. The location of the statue is at Ungasan, Badung, Bali, Indonesia. The statue depicts Lord Vishnu riding on his vehicle, the mythical bird Garuda and speaks for the dominant Hindu population of Bali, representing the religion of the country for the past centuries. Lord Vishnu is known for being the “preserver” in Hindu mythology and he holds different objects that depict other meanings in his four hands. He holds a lotus flower, mace, conch, and discus in the statue as well. Garuda, the bird vehicle, is known to be a watchful protector and the mightiest of all birds. The statue was created by one of the best sculptors in Indonesia, Mr. I Nyoman Nuarta. It took 25 years to build at a cost of over USD $100 million, and is a true sight to behold.
