In 2019, Acid attack survivor Pragya Prasun tried to get a Sim card, but was unable to complete the Digital KYC because she cannot blink. In 2023, she was not allowed to open a new bank account because the digital KYC requires "live photo" with facial movement and blinking. Now, the Supreme Court has passed a slew of directions to change the KYC norms. The Apex court has said that Digital India push cannot leave behind persons with disabilities, acid attack survivors, aged pensioners, or people in marginalised groups. The SC has recognised Right to Digital access as a part of the Fundamental Right to life.
