Hello! Welcome to The Treadle Diaries - my slow stitching, slow living, take-a-deep-breath sewing vlog! This vlog is my space to document those quiet creative moments in my week, and I share my sewing journey with my vintage Singer Treadle sewing machine. Please do like and subscribe if you're enjoying the videos - we are building a small but welcoming community and we'd love you to join us! This week's video is all about using selvages, or selvedges - those thin strings of fabric from the ends of the fabric where you can find information about the designer and the name of the fabric. I've been saving selvages now for a while and this week I found the perfect project. I've used my selvages to make a cushion cover, and it was such a fun little project to make! I got lost in exploring all the different designs and piecing them together. It feels good to use those scraps of fabric instead of throwing them away, and this project is made entirely from scraps, even down to the wadding. If you're looking for a little scrap busting project, then this might be the one for you! It turned out to be a colourful, cheerful little cushion, and I hope you enjoy seeing the process. The cushion cover construction was adapted from an idea shared by Kate at The Last Homely House - you can watch her video here for full instructions: • The FREE SPIRIT Hexagon Cushion: a Tutoria... Let me know if you've made something using selvages - I'd love to hear about it! Just leave me a message in the comments below. Thank you so much for joining me.
