Some small business owners have lost thousands of dollars following the winter storm and Nashville Electric Service power outages. The business owners FOX 17 News spoke with in East Nashville said the prolonged power outages is making it hard for them recover their losses. Laronda Rochelle Waller owns East Nashville Cream & Bean which sells ice cream and coffee. Her shop sits on Douglas Avenue near Meridian Street. It means the world to Waller considering where she came from. "Every time I come, I get reminded that, you can change," said Waller. Waller said she was addicted to crack and cocaine for ten years before becoming sober and then a business owner. "I used to use and, you know, walk up down the street and was homeless," said Waller. It's a business she is proud of. A business she has lost profit in. Waller said January's winter storm wiped out power to her shop for 11 days. "This is my income and 11 days down don't feel good," said Waller. She said it's already slow season, and losing $3.500 in income is not something she can afford. "It's a lot money, and I'm a single parent," said Waller. She said she opened back up on Wednesday. Since then, ice cream company San Bernardo donated ice cream but Waller said it'll only last a week. Just a few minutes away, Spicy Boys on McFerrin Avenue lost power for five days. Richard Hyland is the bar manager. "There's a lot of very perishable stuff that we'd already cooked that we had to say goodbye to unfortunately," said Hyland. He said they special order food like the bread in the po boys they serve which comes from Louisiana as a New Orleans themed restaurant. "We tried to salvage as much as we could," said Hyland. The owner of Spicy Boys, Justen Cheney, said the business lost between $10,000 and $20,000. "What does it do to your business not having that money for let's say a week or two?" I asked. "Yeah, I mean, it's impossible," replied Cheney. Graze Nashville on Eastland Avenue also lost power. "We were forced to close for almost a week due to a loss of power caused by Winter Storm Fern," said owner Mayara Santos in a statement. She is estimating they lost around $30,000 so far. "This includes food, waste, lost wages for employees, damage to equipment, and loss of business income," said Santos. Several of Graze's staff members lost power in their homes and had to stay in hotels for days. https://fox17.com/news/local/small-na... _______________ Follow! Like! Share! Subscribe!
