In this video, host Dr. Mariana Martinez interviews Margaret Donley, faculty of the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family. What does sex do to the brain? How is the biology of sex manifested in the marital relationship and in the family? There are ways in which sex regulates marital relationships. Sex is involved in the reward system of the brain and the human pattern of pair bonding. Females and males have different chemical responses to sex leading to differing patterns of sexual behavior. Margaret makes the claim that “maternal behavior cancels sexual behavior.” Understanding the biological differences can be calming to both men and women. The Bowen Center is a non for profit dedicated to the development of Bowen family systems theory into a science of human behavior; to assist individuals, families, communities, and organizations in addressing major life changes through understanding and improvising human relationships.
