It was deadly, it was brutal and with temperatures colder than 25 degrees below zero, it was frozen. The battle of the Chosin reservoir in the winter of 1950 during the Korean War was one of the coldest battles in US history. Outnumbered nearly ten to one United Nations forces, made up mostly of American troops, were the first to fight against Chinese soldiers as they poured across the border and entered the Korean War.
