The Place Royale is located right next to the Royal Palace of Brussels and the Mont des Arts in the heart of Belgium's capital. It was part of a large-scale urban redevelopment project in the late 18th century and was modeled on the famous French royal squares. This symmetrical square features an equestrian statue of Godfrey of Bouillon, a medieval ruler, and features the magnificent Church of St. James on Coudenberg. Constructed between 1776 and 1782, the Neoclassical buildings facing the square house the Magritte Museum and the Fin-de-Siècle Museum.
