Welcome to Episode 3 of our cider making mini series. Today we start by measuring how much sugar is present in our apple juice, using a hydrometer. It turns out there is plenty of sugar present so we don’t need to add any more. We then add some pectolase to hopefully help produce a clear cider, then some yeast nutrient to help kick start the fermentation. Finally we add the yeast. We want to try running this fermentation in the barn, rather than in the house, so this yeast was the one to go for because it supposedly will ferment in cool conditions. We’ll see if that’s true or not! We are very much amateurs when it comes to making homebrew, although we have been making wine and cider at home for many years. Please bear in mind if you follow our process that we do this sort of thing by trial and error and results are not guaranteed. Episode 4 will be in a few weeks, once the fermentation is coming to and end. #backyardfarming #kitchengarden #fruittrees #apples #backyardhomesteading #backyardharvest #fermentation #hydrometer #alcoholcontent #homebrew #allotmentgarden #orchard #appletree
