The Winter Lantern is a lyrical winter tale for narrator, soloist, choir, and chamber orchestra that explores how shared light can awaken hope in the coldest of seasons. Set in the mountain village of Caerwyn, where winter is not feared but listened to, the story unfolds on the longest night of the year—a night when the village lanterns burn low and spirits waver. Guided by the narrator Eira, we follow Liora, a young woman who carries a single, modest lantern into the snow. Though small, its glow stirs something powerful: as Liora walks, sings, and shares her light, the village begins to awaken—first quietly, then joyfully, then together. Through familiar and beloved winter carols woven with original solo movements and orchestral interludes, the village journeys from stillness to celebration, from isolation to community. When a fierce storm seals Caerwyn in snow, the people gather not in fear, but in warmth and song. In a moment of doubt, Liora learns the central truth of the story: the lantern’s power was never magic—it simply revealed the light already living within each heart. By the final movement, the village stands transformed. Where there was once one flame, there are many. The Winter Lantern becomes more than a tradition—it becomes a living reminder that even the smallest light, when shared, can carry hope through the longest night and guide a whole community toward dawn. The entire work will be finished by September, 2026
