NO GIFT WASTED | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (July 25, 2021) Subscribe to JesComTV http://bit.ly/3qN0biC Today is the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time; and in the Gospel, we are presented with a familiar scene: the feeding of more than five thousand people. The crowd followed Jesus and his apostles on a mount by the Sea of Galilee. Upon seeing the approaching flock, Jesus asked his apostles to get something for them to eat. Thankfully, a boy offered his “five barley loaves and two fish.” Jesus took and bless the bread and fish, then the apostles distributed them. Everyone had their fill. After the meal, “twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves” were gathered. Nothing got wasted. Today’s Gospel prefigures the Eucharistic meal where we offer the fruit of creation and work of our hands, which by the action of the Holy Spirit and in Jesus´ name are taken, blessed and shared as the body and blood of Jesus. The bread of life.
