In this movie Sakhile Dube explains that we have three different types of traditional wine in Northern Zululand. One type is seasonal and made from the fruit of Marula trees, whilst the other two types are made from palm trees. The two local palm trees that grow on our coastal plains have got very high sugar content within their internal fluids. This is to avoid them from reaching boiling point when fires sweep through the grassland. Water with high sugar content will boil at higher temperatures than normal water without. The fluid from these two palms are harvested and left to ferment, making a tasty and vitamin rich traditional wine.
