A history of the Genetic Diversity of the Silken Windhound breed.

This lecture, was given at the 2015 SilkenFest in Florida. It is designed to be watched along with the pages of the history of the breed found here: http://silkenwindhounds.com/genetic/h... The story starts in 1985, and until about 2000, the dogs were simply a private breeding project. There were a number of different dogs used to establish the breed. But since the breed was private, there was no need to keep genetic diversity. Once the "breed" was discovered on the internet, there was a Secondary Founding event from about 1999-2003. During that time, the breeding was essentially two sire lines and those dogs sons, daughters, sisters and other close relatives. Since that time, two additional dogs have entered the breed, but have not yet made a big statistical contribution, compared to the larger gene pool. Francie Stull, Founder of the Silken Windhounds
