Part 3 of my first attempt at soloing a Super Helldive operation. Here is where things get gritty. The bots do everything in their power to grind me down at every turn. It's a dirty, nasty, bloody struggle from start to finish. It takes me almost ten minutes to assail and destroy the last air base control tower, and by then I had already exhausted all of my initial reinforces. And then there was the extraction. I had hoped to try and hide out near extract without drawing too much unwanted attention, but the bots had other plans for me. There was still over two minutes left before the Pelican arrived as the Super Destroyer left orbit and abandoned me to my fate. The bots started to circle like sharks, and with only one minute to go they called in a bot drop in an attempt to crush my seemingly-futile attempt to extract with my life. It is in this moment that I recall the voice of my good and dear friend Shager - the voice which I had heard inside my head roughly forty minutes prior... the voice which convinced me to take smoke grenades on this mission. I started laying down smoke like I was an 80's teenager in a high school bathroom. I used my rough knowledge of this extraction site to help guide me through the smoke, and I used the multitude of resupply packs lying about to keep the smoke flowing. I lucked in to a relatively safe spot off the side of the hillock until the Pelican started to touch down, then I made a mad dash for the loading ramp. I know that extracting isn't technically necessary at this point. I know that it would have still been considered to be a "successful" mission even if my corpse had been left to rot in the burning dust of this forsaken planet. But I'll be damned if I was going to let those bots have the satisfaction of knowing they had prevented my egress. And nothing beats the adrenaline rush and elation and relief of a successful extract under the oppression of a heavy enemy presence.
