MY FIRST TIME experiencing a POWER FAIL inside an elevator! This happened unexpectedly as me and a group of family went down to the lobby when it suddenly stopped midway and the lights went out, before it went down to the ground floor. Ironically it stopped in the middle of an express zone. The on site security guard whom I spoke with after the incident had confirmed to me that there was indeed a short power failure in the building. This video shows how the elevator managed to get down to the ground floor during power failure thanks to Mitsubishi Emergency Landing Device (MELD). The MELD, if equipped in the elevators, will be automatically activated upon power failure and the elevator will move (at lower speed) and stop the nearest floor using a rechargeable battery before the doors open so that passengers can evacuate safely. Shortly after we went out the elevator went out of service for a short period before power was restored. Good thing we went out safely.
