Eating mince pies at Christmas is seriously traditional in the UK. You might think that mince pies contain meat, but you would be mostly wrong - they DID contain meat a few hundred years ago, but they were more or less meat-free by the end of the 19th century. There is still a trace of meatiness in mince pies though, because the filling contains suet. The mincemeat used in mince pies is a combination of dried fruits, apples and citrus fruits - recipes vary, obviously, but I find homemade mince meat to be more palatable than the very sweet shop-bought concoctions.
