Transferring to Edison International Academy - Aspire (Doha, Qatar) came with significant life changes that I never would’ve expected. Being the only Southeast Asian, the only Filipino, meant I had to adjust to different cultures and environments that I knew were out of my comfort zone, even if I had lived in Qatar for most of my life. The friends who knew me somehow saw something they believed in, and pushed me to run for Head Girl in Year 12. I let myself wishfully imagine it— becoming the first Filipino Head Girl of our school, planning events and coordinating the whole Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form. And of course, as a personal goal, I imagined giving a speech in front of everyone during graduation, the cultural pride it would bring me and my family. As a Year 10 student then, struggling with the culture shock and the personal challenges and pressures that came alongside being blindingly different from everyone, it was an impossible dream. But nothing is impossible with God. I learnt that after coming out of the room where the vote-counting process happened, my name on a text beside the title of ‘Head Girl’. I learnt that after surviving constant online harassment from students who doubted my abilities. I learnt that after gaining full and constant support from the school heads, administration, teachers, and staff. I learnt that after sleepless nights of planning activities, followed by exams and extracurriculars. There were times I wanted to give up, times I knew my cultural identity kept me from fully understanding what was going on around me, but when I failed to hold on my own, the Almighty God carried me through, endlessly blessing me in different ways, until I pushed through enough to graduate. It was nothing short of an honour to speak as the first Asian and only Filipino Head Girl of Edison International Academy (Aspire). I learnt so much about other interesting viewpoints, beautiful traditions, and it made me learn how to love my own. ❤️🇵🇭 Thank you so much to my family, friends, supporters, teachers and staff of Edison International Academy (Aspire). I couldn’t be more blessed to have the love and support you all give me. To God be all the glory 🙏 #graduation #graduationspeech #inspirational #qatar #philippines #filipino #trending #fyp #fypage #trendingvideo #eia #aspiretoinspire #aspirepark #edison #internationalschool
