Experience the legendary steam locomotives in action in Thailand! 🚂🇹🇭 Join me on this special Steam Excursion Train No. 901 from Bangkok Hua Lamphong to Ayutthaya - the first section of the Thai railways, opened in 1891. This journey was on 23 October 2025 in commemoration of Chulalongkorn Day. Witness the iconic Pacific 824 and 850 steam locomotives in full glory on the mainline, a rare sight for train lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Journey through Thailand’s rail heritage with stunning countryside views, festive crowds, and a touch of nostalgia. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) is considered the founding father of Thai railways because it was during his reign that the first railway lines in Thailand were built, and he personally patronised the development of the railway system. He initiated the construction of the first major railway line, starting with the Bangkok to Ayutthaya section in 1891, which was completed in 1895. He also established the Royal State Railway organization in 1896, a precursor to the modern State Railway of Thailand, ensuring the railways remained under public ownership rather than foreign control. King Chulalongkorn’s vision for the railway was strategic, aimed at modernising the country and strengthening national sovereignty amid colonial pressures from Britain, France, and Germany. His leadership involved hiring Western experts while maintaining Thai control over construction and operation. The rail line was intended to connect Bangkok with northern regions such as Chiang Mai. His reforms and the railway system significantly improved transportation speed, economy, and integration within Thailand, transforming travel times and fostering national unity. This foundational work earned him the title as the father of modern Thai railways, with lasting impact on the country’s infrastructure development. 🚆 Bogie Third Class Carriage (BTC76) Info: https://railtravelstation.com/state-r... 🚆 More journeys: https://railtravelstation.com/ / railtravelstation Please like, share, and subscribe to support this channel.
