Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. The Native Rohingya script (Hanifi) was oriented incorrectly. During the creation of the slides, it was copy-pasted from left to right instead of right to left. Special Thanks to Sofia Hussain, Shafiq Jalil and Mohammad Younus :) Salamoalaikum! Mor nam Andy. Gom aso ne? Hello! My name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Rohingya language. Rohingya Language The Rohingya language is closely related to Chittagonian, spoken in southeastern Bangladesh, and Chakma, spoken across both Myanmar and Bangladesh. It also shares similarities with Assamese, Bengali, and Tanchangya. Historically, an oral language, Rohingya was first written in the 19th century using a version of the Perso-Arabic script. In 1975, an Arabic-based script was developed, inspired by the Urdu alphabet but adapted for Rohingya. In the 1980s, Moammod Hanif created the first unified script, later named the Hanifi system. In 1999, Siddiq Basu introduced a simplified Latin-based script to encourage global communication and language preservation. This video uses both Hanifi and Rohingyalish scripts. Before developing their own script, the Rohingya people relied on Farsi and Urdu scripts. Rohingya People The Rohingya are an ethnic minority from Myanmar's Rakhine State, historically known as Arakan. They have a rich cultural and linguistic heritage, deeply rooted in the region’s history. Their traditions, language, and way of life reflect a unique blend of influences, shaped by centuries of interaction with neighboring communities. The Rohingya continue to preserve and celebrate their identity through their language, customs, and community life. Rohingya Culture Rohingya culture is a blend of South Asian and Southeast Asian influences, reflecting their historical connections to southeastern Bangladesh and western Myanmar. Their traditions include rich oral storytelling, folk songs, seasonal celebrations, and religious practices that align with Sunni-Sufi Islam. Rohingya cuisine features rice, seafood, tropical roots, vegetables, and greens, closely resembling the culinary traditions of coastal communities across South India and Southeast Asia. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
