Mid Hants Railway - Spring Steam Gala 2016

The Mid Hants Railway held their annual 'Spring Steam Gala' over the weekend of the 12th - 14th February. For 2016, the event would take place in the second month of the calendar year, following on from last year's Gala, which was held around the same time. This year's event would run to the theme of Guildford Shed, with the two visiting locomotives being those that were allocated to 70C during their working careers. Arriving from the Bluebell Railway was the sole surviving SR Q Class No. 30541, which was allocated to Guildford from March 1963 until its withdrawal in November 1964. Making consecutive gala appearances on the Watercress Line was the popular LSWR T9 No. 30120, which was returning to Hampshire just a few months after visiting for the 'Autumn Steam Gala' last year! The 'Greyhound' made 70C its home between December 1952 and September 1953. Making a return to traffic at this event was LMS Ivatt 2MT No. 41312, which was back in action following a major overhaul. The last time the loco hauled trains was back in 2009! Whilst the Ivatt was returning, there was also a farewell, as SR Unrebuilt West Country No. 34007 'Wadebridge' would make one last gala appearance, as the loco is scheduled to be withdrawn for overhaul in early March. The rest of the lineup consisted of BR 9F No. 92212, LMS Black Five No. 45379 and SR Schools Class No. 925 'Cheltenham'.
