Setting out at sunrise, this was a deliberate and intentional day-trip to locate topaz crystals in the Tarryall Mountains. This range trends north into Lost Creek Wilderness in Park County, Colorado, and has earned a reputation of producing large topaz, feldspar, and smoky quartz crystals. The video takes place in a late stage intrusion on the western margin of Pikes Peak batholith. Mineralization occurs in granitic pegmatites and miarolitic cavities, especially along joints as illustrated throughout this video. Gage Kinkoph is a furious Colorado collector who invests much time prospecting the west and midwestern States. When he’s not prospecting, he’s researching mineralogy, synthesizing articles, and generating maps of new places to explore for mineral potential.
