Police Encounter in Chheharta Amritsar | Notorious Criminal Injured After Firing on Police A major police encounter has been reported from the Chheharta police station area of Amritsar, where Punjab Police had a face-off with a criminal. As soon as information about the encounter surfaced, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar personally reached the spot and briefed the media with full details of the operation. According to the Police Commissioner, a complaint was earlier filed by Jaspal Singh, a resident of Ramdas Colony, stating that Amritpal Singh alias Roni and his accomplice Harpreet Niyana arrived in an XUV car and fired two shots with the intention to kill him. Jaspal Singh narrowly escaped, though he sustained a bullet injury in his leg. Taking the matter seriously, police launched a professional and swift investigation and arrested the main accused Amritpal Singh alias Roni (aged around 25), who was working as a delivery boy. Police revealed that the accused already has a previous NDPS Act case involving commercial quantity of heroin registered against him. During weapon recovery near a garbage dumping site on Madiyan Road, Chheharta, the accused suddenly pulled out a loaded .30 bore pistol and fired at the police team. Despite warnings, when the accused continued firing, police acted in self-defence and injured the accused, successfully overpowering him. Police have also recovered the XUV vehicle used in the crime. The second accused Harpreet Niyana is currently absconding, and police raids are underway to arrest him.
