Interview: Case dismissed against stepmom accused in triple murder case

All charges were dismissed Wednesday against the stepmom accused of helping her stepson conceal evidence in a triple murder. Judge Jennifer Pena of the 290th District Court dropped all charges against Mytra Romanos after she denied the prosecutions request for a continuance due to the declining health of a family member. Romanos had faced multiple charges in connection with the deaths of Savannah Soto, her boyfriend Matthew Guerra, and their unborn child, which could have carried decades behind bars if convicted. Jury selection had been scheduled to begin Wednesday, but Romanos is now set to be released. Romanos and her stepson, Christopher Preciado, are accused of hiding the bodies after investigators say he shot Soto and Guerra following a drug-related incident. Along with the stepson’s father, Ramon Preciado, she faced charges including altering or destroying evidence, concealing a human corpse, and tampering with evidence. Ramon Preciado is out on bond, while Christopher remains in custody. His trial is scheduled for February 2, 2026, and Ramon’s trial date has not yet been set. Despite the dismissal, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office may refile charges against Romanos.
