A special feature here is the 41-day coconut offering ritual to Lord Hanuman Swami, done while fasting continuously. This video will share everything you need to know about visiting the temple including travel routes, parking, temple history, and pooja details. This modern temple is located in the village of Desham, on the northern bank of the Periyar River in Ernakulam district. Just 500 meters east of the Aluva Angamaly highway, the temple complex has modern landscaping and ample parking space. It is less than 4 kilometers from Aluva Metro Station and accessible from Aluva Railway Station as well. From the station, one can take a bus to Desham Kunnumpuram stop and then walk or take an auto. Though the road to the temple is narrow, there is parking available for up to 40 vehicles along with clean toilet facilities. The temple also features a daily free meal service, a pooja items shop, and a small tea stall. The architectural style and setup are distinct from traditional Kerala temples. A beautifully designed small waterfall welcomes visitors. The main entrance is decorated with intricate wooden carvings and the sanctum of Lord Dattatreya can be seen soon after entering. Lord Dattatreya is a divine incarnation that combines Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The word Dattatreya means the one who is given. The Trimurthis appeared as the son of Sage Atri and Mother Anasuya, hence the name Dattatreya or Atreya. In Shaiva and Nath traditions, Dattatreya is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva and the original guru of the Nath sampradaya. The templeโs construction began in 1998. The Anjaneya idol, crafted in Suchindram near Kanyakumari, was brought to Kerala in a ceremonial procession. The idol has three heads and six arms, holding items like shankh, chakra, damaru, trishul, and kamandalu, and is flanked by Jaya and Vijaya as gatekeepers. On the left side of the sanctum is Lord Ganesha and on the right is Lord Hanuman. In front of the Anjaneya sanctum is the Navagraha shrine. The temple is famous for the fulfillment of desires through worshipping the Karya Siddhi Anjaneya. A small, decorated idol of Hanuman is located here and around it are various stone carvings showing scenes like Hanuman carrying the Sanjeevani mountain, tearing open his chest to reveal Lord Rama and Sita, and Panchamukha Hanuman. Another common offering is the fragrant oil lamp. A special oil mix made of jasmine, sandalwood, camphor, musk, and clove oils is used in a lamp with five red cotton wicks. After lighting the lamp, devotees circumambulate the sanctum three times for divine blessings. This is often done for 3, 5, 7, 11, or 16 weeks for full results. Offerings of vada mala and panakam, which are dear to Lord Hanuman, can also be done here. Apart from the coconut pooja, Ganapathi Homam is also performed with devoteesโ participation, and prasadam is distributed afterward. Just outside the main complex near the parking area is the underground Panchamukha Hanuman Temple. The Panchamukha (five-faced) form includes Hanuman, Hayagriva, Narasimha, Garuda, and Varaha. The legend traces back to the Ramayana when Ahiravana and Mahiravana took Rama and Lakshmana to the underworld. Hanuman, while rescuing them, learned that the two demons could only be defeated by extinguishing five lamps at once. He assumed the Panchamukha form to achieve this and rescued Rama and Lakshmana. Each face of Panchamukha Hanuman offers a unique blessing. Facing east, Hanuman grants success and removes enemies. The Garuda face facing west removes health issues from past karma. The Varaha face facing north provides prosperity and peace. The Narasimha face facing south protects from negative energies. The upward-facing Hayagriva bestows wisdom and knowledge. Salt is the primary offering made to Panchamukha Hanuman here.
